(More customer reviews)Waterpik has long been a respected name in the oral care industry, so when I saw this product I jumped at the chance to try it out. Having said that, the Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush is not all I had hoped for. Let's start with the positives:
It's got a wall-mountable base which is GREAT for cutting down clutter around the bathroom sink, and keeps it up and out of the way of small hands looking to "help clean the bathroom." It also has the prototypical "30 second timer" which has become so popular with sonic brushes as of late. On top of that, it comes with two seperate brush heads (one for him and one for her), along with an interdental brush. Lastly, unlike the Ultreo which has been my brush of choice, it has two seperate speed settings, one low and one high. Overall, it is an attractive set-up and good value for the price.
The negatives:
This brush is VERY harsh on the gums for some reason. I've used Ultreo with no problems for a few months now. When I tried this for a week, my gums bled something awful every time, even on the low speed setting. On top of that, the high speed setting just doesn't work with this brush. You end up splattering spit and toothpaste all over the place, no matter how proper your brushing style is. It's really unfortunate too, because if it weren't for these issues, this would be a wonderful 5-star brush.
As it is, this is still priced decently compared to other "sonic" brushes on the market, but if you're looking for the ultimate brushing experience, I would have to recommend Ultreo over this Waterpik.

(More customer reviews)A few years ago - in my quest to find an electric toothbrush per my dentist's instructions led me to stand in front of the products meticulously comparing one vs. another, did it do this that and the other, price point, etc. Oral B won for 1 reason, price and I had a coupon at Costco and their replacement heads were cheaper. That was a few years ago. I was under the impression that all electric toothbrushes were created equally. Although my teeth's health improved, there are still issues. My last cleaning was very intense at the dentist.
My Oral B is almost dead - it's been 2 years, the battery will hold for a couple of days, but not over a week like it used to. The search for the next toothbrush started.
Surprisingly, I didn't have a hard choice with picking Sonicare. I see the demo/advertising whatever at my dentist. I also knew I wasn't happy with OralB - because my teeth didn't feel clean, and I knew that it was definitely not getting into all the contours of my mouth.
My first use with my Sonicare
I felt like a light bulb exploded in my head. It was ridiculous how clean my teeth felt, as if I just had them cleaned and polished at my dentist. How is that possible with only 1 session? Was my Oral B that bad? Maybe this was a fluke. A few more days went by, my teeth stayed with that smooth clean feeling. It's been a few weeks and I'm hooked.
What's so different about it - the brush head for one. Oral B has a circular head, it spins with use. With the Sonicare, it oscillates back and forth, mimicking real tooth brushing motion. There are contours of the brush so it gets between the teeth. The bristles are stiff to clean my teeth but gentle enough to get into the gums w/o causing bleeding. Oral B brush heads were rough and painful.
This product is great for small mouths, hard to reach areas/crevices and for sensitive teeth.
I like that it has options for sensitive and regular or whitening. I like that it's timed so I know I'm doing the right amount. The toothbrush will shut itself off after 2 minutes. It'll be good for kids too, so they're not doing a swipe and say they're done.
I'm very impressed with this product, very glad I got it and can't wait until my next dentist appointment. I've had it for a few weeks and notice not only are my teeth cleaner, but they are truly whiter.
UPDATE:
I've had it for a few months - went for my cleaning and my dental hygienist noticed my teeth/gums were improving. She asked me what I did differently and told her I switched toothbrushes. HA!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE my toothbrush!
UPDATE 10/6/2010:
Went for my cleaning yesterday - OMG! Can we say miracle? The dental hygienist was super happy to see my gums are getting healthier, when they do the measurements I've been getting mostly 4's (1's are ideal, 5's are no good), but this time, they were at mostly 2's with a couple of 3's!! My gums/teeth and mouth are overall getting better with each visit. My dentist is happy with my progress - so am I!! the least amount of dental work, the happier I'll be.

Originally, it stated I would receive 3 brushes per pack; 1 standard, 1 small head and 1 interdental brush. I received 2 standard brushs per pack not the 3 mixed pack. I called Amazon twice on it and now the product description has been changed but it is still wrong. It now states 2 brushes per pack; 1 standard and 1 small. That is incorrect. There are 2 standard brushes per pack. So Amazon sort of listened and sort of corrected it. In either case, 2 brushes for less than $11 is still a bargin. I would purchase these again. Waterpik makes a great product even though Oral B and Sonicare get all the publicity.

There's a lot of confusion about replacement heads for Oral B electric toothbrushes on Amazon, and I just want to give you all some facts. There are only three kinds of heads for ALL Oral-B electric toothbrushes. Flexisoft EB17, Extrasoft EB17, and Ortho OD17. I prefer Flexisoft EB17. (The Extrasoft is a little too soft, and the Ortho is overpriced for very little extra benefit.) I'd recommend the Flexisoft heads over this one, and they're less than half the price.

It really only holds the normal skinny handle brushes and most people don't use those anymore. None of the kids brushes would fit and the adult ones were a battle to get in and out. (More customer reviews)I really wanted to like this product. I'm not usually a person that gets duped by infomercials, but the way they explained its design and use made perfect sense.
I was excited to get it in the mail to try it out, but once i did i was heartbroken (I know it sounds nerdy but I am really OCD about oral hygiene!). When I tried it out, it didn't feel sharp or firm enough to get the gunk off my tongue. It only took about half the residue at the most off of my tongue.
The product might work better if the entire 'brush' head and scraper was just half of its original size wider. Plus the biggest disappointment was that the long fine bristles on it was just comprised of flimsy, weak rubber which had no effect whatsoever. If the bristles were actually short, medium-strength toothbrush bristles only then might it work. I hope the company is reading this to rethink their quality and manufacturing methods
I know it's inexpensive but I would not recommend this product to anyone serious about the smell of their breath and cleanliness of their tongue. My title speaks for itself.

I hate wrapping the floss around my finger to get a grip, I abhor reaching to the back of my mouth to get the back teeth, I despise the clicking sound of the floss as it pops out from between the enamel. And then there's all the problems with the gums, and the dentist recriminations of not flossing enough or properly or blah blah blah. I've been through all kinds of floss: starting with the dollar variety that is more wax than fiber so it feels like I'm flossing with a candle; the thick batch that makes it near-impossible to fit between my teeth and that is so coarse, it's as if i'm trying to fell a toothy forest. And the ticker the floss, the more it digs into my fingers and the less likely it will fit comfortably into the toothy crevices.
But THIS stuff, this Crest Glide Deep Clean Floss, is astounding! From the first moment I opened the top, when the floss near-floated out on a soft tendril of air, as if an ephemeral elven lock of hair (you know that's what hobbits and wizards use, right?) weaving it's way to my mouth, I knew this was the floss for me. Soft, it is: minty, wraith-thin. Did I mention soft? How many flosses can you say are SOFT?! This one is. And strong, too. Like Teflon plumbing tape, only minty, and dental.
Every time I use it, I tear up a little at it's absolute beauty and perfection: a Lamborghini of dental floss with the class of a Rolls Royce. But I steel myself and get to business. It seems a shame to actually use this little strand of heaven, but it is for teeth, and for teeth it shall be used. From the moment I slip it between the tooths and begin working, the squeaks of clean minty goodness sound out: an angel's chorus of plaque and gunk destruction. How many angels can dance on the top of a tooth? I don't know, but if they are dancing, they're using Crest Glide Deep Clean Floss as Olympic-caliber Ribbon Dancing! Add some pop-rocks, and I'd have an angelic disco in my mouth.
I cannot recommend this floss more highly. I expect that this floss will be put on the short list for canonization and soon people all over the world will be praying to Crest Glide Deep Clean Floss, Patron Saint of Good Dental Hygiene and Flossing the night before their checkups.

(More customer reviews)A few years ago I gave up on the WaterPik for various reasons. After my last Waterpik failed completely, I bought a Conair Interplak WJ7 which I loved! I did the job plus it was simple in design, had plenty of 'power', a perfectly adequate resevoir (for me anyway), and a lower price that WaterPik. I then proceeded to buy one more each for my brother in FL, and my sister in MA, as I MUST have my WaterJet whenever I visit them. Later I decided to get another one for the downstairs bathroom, so ordered this one from Amazon in Jan 04, despite many poor reviews, which surprised me. Most of these one-star reviews cited low power. Not a problem I figured, so continued on with the order. Bottom line, this new Water Jet was a Model WJ7B, included some hokey attachments, and horrors -- low power!!! I tried to use it, but finally gave up and actually threw it away in disgust. How could Conair ever let such a poor performer get into production? On the good side, a search of Google/Froogle shows what appear to be lots of sites still offering the superior WJ7, which I am going to order for my downstairs bathroom.

I got the SmartSeries 4000 for myself and bought some extra heads so my wife could try it out as well. She loves the clean feel as much as i do, and subsequently i purchased her own smartseries for her so she has the flexibility to travel and doesn't have to share my base. The size and scrubbing motion of the 'cupping/floss-action' toothbrush is great, it maneuvers well to cover all surfaces of each tooth.

It delivers on its promises and then some. The vibrating cup moves smoothly on the tooth surface and then edges gently but effectively between the teeth to remove the hard-to-reach stains. Re. earlier review that fretted over the vibrating cup - it is easy to control and does not "run" the way a brush with a circular motion might. Very effective at removing stains without irritating gums. All in - a great purchase at a great price.

(More customer reviews)I've always prided myself on my good teeth. I thought that flossing and brushing was enough...that was until I went to the dentist, and he said I had the beginnings of periodontal disease. That scared the hell out of me.
I went home and started using the Sonicare I had bought but never plugged in. That was good, but not enough - I bought a Waterpik because obviously flossing wasn't cutting it.
I had never used a Waterpik before, and it was some revelation! I'm still amazed that there are some Waterpik oldtimers who say this machine isn't strong enough...uh, for what? Peeling paint off a brick wall? This thing absolutely knocked my socks off when it came to the PRESSURE.
I started out at 2 and worked my way up to 7 - it still stings like mad, but I'm getting used to it by now. I put Listerine in the tank to increase the anti-bacteria result.
My dentist went on vacation, and I had to cancel another appointment, so it happened that almost two months had elapsed since the last time I had seen him. In that time, I faithfully brushed with the Sonicare four times a day and used the Waterpik at least once (several tankfuls of water and Listerine worth.)
Regarding the leaking people talk about - the only time the tank leaks, I notice, is if I put my fingers on the seal when I'm refilling it. If I'm careful to keep my fingers away from that seal, the tank is water tight.
So when I returned for my check-up, the dentist was AMAZED. He wasn't sure what I had done, but he said my gums looked pink and healthy! He had said initially I'd have to get my teeth cleaned every three months because I must be one of those people who gets a tartar build up quicker than other people...well, I had worked religiously on scaling back the plaque. (I had also bought a dental mirror so I could check the back of my front teeth for telltale plaque residue.)
Hmmm, no comment about that plaque...was it because there WASN'T any? My dentist asked me if I had been eating because there was so little build up (I had to tear that out of him because I KNEW he didn't want to give me credit for working that hard on my dental hygiene!)
The dentist HADN'T recommended a Waterpik, but I knew I had to go to the extreme to beat back the periodontal enemy. My teeth are so clean, they squeak!
