Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite 3 Mode Premium Edition Rechargeable T Review

A few years ago - in my quest to find an electric toothbrush per my dentist's instructions led me to stand in front of the products meticulously comparing one vs. another, did it do this that and the other, price point, etc. Oral B won for 1 reason, price and I had a coupon at Costco and their replacement heads were cheaper. That was a few years ago. I was under the impression that all electric toothbrushes were created equally. Although my teeth's health improved, there are still issues. My last cleaning was very intense at the dentist.
My Oral B is almost dead - it's been 2 years, the battery will hold for a couple of days, but not over a week like it used to. The search for the next toothbrush started.
Surprisingly, I didn't have a hard choice with picking Sonicare. I see the demo/advertising whatever at my dentist. I also knew I wasn't happy with OralB - because my teeth didn't feel clean, and I knew that it was definitely not getting into all the contours of my mouth.
My first use with my Sonicare
I felt like a light bulb exploded in my head. It was ridiculous how clean my teeth felt, as if I just had them cleaned and polished at my dentist. How is that possible with only 1 session? Was my Oral B that bad? Maybe this was a fluke. A few more days went by, my teeth stayed with that smooth clean feeling. It's been a few weeks and I'm hooked.
What's so different about it - the brush head for one. Oral B has a circular head, it spins with use. With the Sonicare, it oscillates back and forth, mimicking real tooth brushing motion. There are contours of the brush so it gets between the teeth. The bristles are stiff to clean my teeth but gentle enough to get into the gums w/o causing bleeding. Oral B brush heads were rough and painful.
This product is great for small mouths, hard to reach areas/crevices and for sensitive teeth.
I like that it has options for sensitive and regular or whitening. I like that it's timed so I know I'm doing the right amount. The toothbrush will shut itself off after 2 minutes. It'll be good for kids too, so they're not doing a swipe and say they're done.
I'm very impressed with this product, very glad I got it and can't wait until my next dentist appointment. I've had it for a few weeks and notice not only are my teeth cleaner, but they are truly whiter.
UPDATE:
I've had it for a few months - went for my cleaning and my dental hygienist noticed my teeth/gums were improving. She asked me what I did differently and told her I switched toothbrushes. HA!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE my toothbrush!
UPDATE 10/6/2010:
Went for my cleaning yesterday - OMG! Can we say miracle? The dental hygienist was super happy to see my gums are getting healthier, when they do the measurements I've been getting mostly 4's (1's are ideal, 5's are no good), but this time, they were at mostly 2's with a couple of 3's!! My gums/teeth and mouth are overall getting better with each visit. My dentist is happy with my progress - so am I!! the least amount of dental work, the happier I'll be.

Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 4000 Rechargeable Toothbrush Review

Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 4000 Rechargeable Toothbrush

I tried some of the original sonicare electric toothbrushes a few years back and felt that they were more of a gimmick but these latest oral-b brushes are great. I got the SmartSeries 4000 for myself and bought some extra heads so my wife could try it out as well. She loves the clean feel as much as i do, and subsequently i purchased her own smartseries for her so she has the flexibility to travel and doesn't have to share my base. The size and scrubbing motion of the 'cupping/floss-action' toothbrush is great, it maneuvers well to cover all surfaces of each tooth.

Philips Sonicare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush Essence e5300 Review

Philips Sonicare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush Essence e5300
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this unit about 6 weeks ago - to replace my previous Sonicare system.
It is basically the same motor, charge time, etc. The BIG difference is the SIZE and quality of the brushhead.
The bristles have worn out much sooner than my old Sonic brush head. After 6 weeks of brushing, it needs replacing! And WE KNOW how exspensive they are to replace.
Not only that, but the brush size is HALF of my previous one. Literally about 1/2 the size. And I have the old brush to compare them.
For $79.00 you would think Sonic could put in an extra brush head, but they don't.
It is obvious to me, that to increse sales revenues $$$$ (due to decrese sales) they have SKIMPED on the esstentials. I would compare other models or brands before I purchased this one. I am taking mine back. Shame on you Phillip!!!!

Revising my first reveiw-below-because the battery will only hold a charge for 2-3 days, versus the 2-3 weeks it is supposed to go without recharging. I guess that's the ACTUAL reason that it's so cheap! Amazon says they will refund full purchase price upon return, but we'll see.
______________________
Finally had to replace my 12-year-old brush because the battery would no longer hold a charge--but that's a good track record. This is exactly as advertised. I guess the reason it's cheap is that it is the pro version, and is not supposed to be sold by anyone except a dentist. Anyway, works great!

Let's start by saying that I am an extremely happy Phillips Sonicare customer for about 4 years. Yes, incredibly my Sonicare 4000 A Series looks like new and works like the first day, including battery charge and the 2 minute timer. The battery still holds a week and a half when I travel. I thought I was ready for a change, maybe for the availability and cost of the replacement brushes for my old model(like 25-40 dollars) or for a new technology added to the new models. When I was looking for Sonicares, I saw this one and its amazing price, so I did a lot of research about replacement brushes and any way to get them for this model. I could not find GSI as a company anywhere, not even info on the web regarding the brush heads. With the refund policy of Amazon I've ordered it anyway. The construction of this powerbrush is solid but you can tell it is a cheaper plastic. Comes with 3 brush heads and I thought they will let you know inside the box where to order the replacements, haha, yeah right! Looks like you have to buy a new one after you use the 3 brush heads. I did try to contact the seller but it continue redirecting me to the amazon customer service which they provided a link to contact the seller that never worked.
It is a soft vibration comparing to my old Sonicare. The heads are small and you can reach all the places, that's the only nice thing I could say about it.
After using it 2 days normally, I pick it up from the charger and it turn on by itself. I couldn't turn it off, on/off button did not work at all, so it turn off when I put it back in the charger... Since then it did not turn on anymore. So after a day and a half of trying to make it work I've sent it back for refund. Thank God for Amazon return policy!!
I did this review so you can be aware of this product and search somewhere else.
Back to Sonicare for me, buy some replacement headbrushes from Ebay and saving to buy a new model in the future.
Hope this helps!

Philips Sonicare for Kids HX6311/02 Rechargeable Toothbrush Review

Philips Sonicare for Kids HX6311/02 Rechargeable Toothbrush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Philips Sonicare toothbrushes for years and years. I've owned several as I've worn them out over the years and as they have improved the design. I was excited to see that they have a model specifically for kids and wondered what the differences might be.
The toothbrush is almost the same as the Sonicare I currently own for myself. The similarities are:
1.) Different power levels for different users (in the case of the kids' brush one setting for ages 4-7 and one for ages 7-10.
2.) Quadrapace timer- the children's version has a musical tone every 30 seconds to let your child know to move to the next quadrant of her mouth.
3.) Ramped up power and time- the feeling of a Sonicare is a little off-putting to some people at first as it can cause a kind of tingling in the mouth from the rapid vibrations. The power (in both modes) and the time (in the low power mode) are ramped up over the first several uses to allow people to get used to it. It starts off with lower power and for little kids, a shorter overall brushing time.
4.) Different size heads- the head is actually interchangeable with the regular Sonicare brush that I have. The shape at the base is just slightly different. I was worried about finding heads for the kids' brush. But, if I can't, I'll just buy a regular head for her when this one wears out. The heads come in two sizes. But, I found the larger one is pretty much exactly like my normal Sonicare head. The bristles seem to be about the same stiffness and the shape of the bristles and the head is just about the same.
The differences are:
1.) Cute kids colors and interchangeable face plate. Read the directions. The face plate has a protective back that should be removed so it doesn't keep falling off. It'll come with one face plate on it. But, you can change it.
2.) Charger is a two piece device- I don't like this. My Sonicare came with a travel charge in addition to the regular charger. This kids version seems to have used a travel charger (which doesn't have a place to store the extra heads) and they just made a piece to fit over it. The problem is it doesn't snap together. So, it's just kind of tacky and unstable.
3.) Instead of just pausing between quadrants, the kids version of the brush actually plays a musical tone.
My 9 year old squealed with glee when she saw the toothbrush. She couldn't wait to use it. She even asked if she could brush three times a day instead of two. I worked with her the first couple of times she used it, as you will have to with your kids. The timer is great because we have bought timers for she and her older sister before to get them to brush for two minutes with their manual brushes. But, they don't use the timer consistently and two minutes is a long time for a child (especially if they're thinking about doing something else). The other thing you'll have to work with your child on is not using this like a regular toothbrush. Children tend to brush too hard anyway and we have been working with both our children about not scrubbing their teeth. With the Sonicare, you just place the brush against the teeth and move it from section to section. It took a while for her to get this concept as she kept wanting to use a back and forth motion. She laughed saying the brush "tickled". But, the sensation was not uncomfortable for her.
Overall, I give the brush a very good rating. There are only a couple of things I don't like about it. The charger could be better constructed. In addition to being two parts, the spare head doesn't fit on the post very well and tends to pop off. Another thing that could concern me with a younger child is the way you change the power setting from the lower level (for 4-7) to the higher level is a simple button that is easily accessible to children. Curious children may push the button and end up brushing their teeth with either too much power or too little power. I honestly don't find this brush to be significantly different than the Sonicare I already own, which is a good thing. This is not a water-down version of a Sonicare. I was wondering what features it might be missing. It's got all of their advanced features in terms of the guts of the brush (I have the one with the Ultraviolet cleaner). The novelty of it and the built-in timer will get kids excited about brushing and make sure they brush thoroughly. I highly recommend it.

Philips Sonicare R732/HX6732/02 HealthyWhite Power Toothbrush Review

Philips Sonicare R732/HX6732/02 HealthyWhite Power Toothbrush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was first introduced to Sonicare products about 1993. My dentist came back from a
convention and told me that with my dental history (crowns, root canals, and one of the first dental implants) I HAD to have one of these. He set me up on a payment plan for the 250 dollar plus toothbrush. To start using it you had to put in bunch of rings. It tickled like crazy but I got used to it.
Since then I have always had a Sonicare. I always loved them, EXCEPT for keeping them clean. This toothbrush finally addresses those issues.
There is no longer a "ring" collar and a hollow portion in the handle where the magnetic portion of the brush would go. This always got full of gunk and had to be cleaned with a Q-tip.Gunk would also collect between the ring and the brush portion. This problem is eliminated with this new model. The brush head is completely different and simply sticks onto a "spike" that comes out of the top of the brush. There are no crevices for dirt and toothpaste to accumulate. The charging base is also now different, it no longer has an indentation to get dirty. The brush simply sits on a small spike on a flat surface. This, however, does make it easier to knock the toothbrush over, but I will take that for not having to clean out the charger with an old toothbrush.
The toothbrush initially starts with a "ramp up" period, which allows you to get used to the vibrations in your mouth over a few weeks of brushing. If you already have used a Sonicare you can simply put the brush on the base, hold down the button and it will automatically go to full power, you can also reverse this process to re-initialize the toothbrush back to the ramp up mode. If you get the brush and it does not seem as powerful as your old one, you need to skip over this "getting used to it period" by resetting the toothbrush.
The brush head itself is different from my current "Elite" model. This brushhead has a few longer bristles at the top which seem to vibrate faster and clean deeper. That took a little getting used to, I had to switch to the "sensitive" mode for a few of my teeth with extensive dental work. The handle feels more nimble in your hand and the brushhead smaller.Another great feature, the charger can now be used overseas without a voltage converter. You do need a plug so you can physically plug it in (so the prongs match the prongs in whatever country you are visiting) (like Lenmar AC5 World Travel Adapter/Converter Plug Set) but you do not need a transformer. They don't say this in the product description on Amazon, but it is spelled out in the manual.
I am not sure how to determine if my teeth are whiter. I have been using the "clean and white" except on a few teeth. It would be neat if they included a chart in the box so you could test the "before" and "after". My teeth do not feel any cleaner than when I was using the Sonicare Elite, but my gums do seem to be bleeding less when I floss. I am not sure if that is due to the little extra length fibers on the brushhead or a different vibration pattern.
If you have a more recent Sonicare I would not run out to get this one, but would seriously consider it once you have used up your brushheads. Or hand down your older
model to your kids and upgrade. If you travel a lot, this is the one to get, you can use it without worrying about running out of charge. It is a lot easier to keep clean.
Although I usually do not send in warranty cards I do for Sonicare. They are will send you coupons for money off new brushheads and I also once had one that quit after 7 months. I called them, they looked up my warranty and sent me a new one in the mail right away.

Philips Sonicare Proresults Brush Heads Standard 3 Pack More Environmentally Friendly Than Sonicare Elite Proresults Brush Head for Superior Oral Health Review

Philips Sonicare Proresults Brush Heads Standard 3 Pack More Environmentally Friendly Than Sonicare Elite Proresults Brush Head for Superior Oral Health
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are the replacement brush heads that go with Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush. I have been extremely satisfied with FlexCare toothbrush, and these heads are the replacement for the standard size head that came with the toothbrush. They are very good brush heads, and there isn't much that I would complain about. However, there are a few issues that I have with them:
1.The strip of brush-hears that is designed to indicate when the head needs a replacement seems to be worn out a bit too quickly. I used to replace my regular toothbrushes about once every couple of months or so, but these heads seem to get worn out after just a couple of weeks. From the look of the head and the way it brushed my teeth I could see clearly that it was still a perfectly usable toothbrush. And since I sanitize it after each use, there was absolutely no need for it to be replaced so soon.
2.The base of one of my brush heads, i.e. the part that gets attached to the toothbrush, came off and although I was able to reattach it this created problems every time I would remove the head from the body of the toothbrush. Since, as I mentioned, I remove the head after each brushing, this creates an annoyance. I wish the heads were made sturdier than this.
3.The price. When you consider the fact that you can buy a perfectly good full regular toothbrush for about $3-$5, the price of these brush replacements seems rather too high by at least a factor of two. I am not sure if there is some kind of copyright that prevents other manufacturers from creating their own replacement brush heads, but if there is no such thing then someone could make a lot of money by creating an alternative version of these heads.
4.Related to the above point, there is no reason why there should only be two shapes of these replacement heads. A little bit of competition in this department could be very useful as well.
Overall, I am very satisfied with these replacement brush heads, but there are many ways in which they could be improved.
