Philips Sonicare HX6733/70 HealthyWhite 3 Mode Premium Edition Rechargeable T Review

A few years ago - in my quest to find an electric toothbrush per my dentist's instructions led me to stand in front of the products meticulously comparing one vs. another, did it do this that and the other, price point, etc. Oral B won for 1 reason, price and I had a coupon at Costco and their replacement heads were cheaper. That was a few years ago. I was under the impression that all electric toothbrushes were created equally. Although my teeth's health improved, there are still issues. My last cleaning was very intense at the dentist.
My Oral B is almost dead - it's been 2 years, the battery will hold for a couple of days, but not over a week like it used to. The search for the next toothbrush started.
Surprisingly, I didn't have a hard choice with picking Sonicare. I see the demo/advertising whatever at my dentist. I also knew I wasn't happy with OralB - because my teeth didn't feel clean, and I knew that it was definitely not getting into all the contours of my mouth.
My first use with my Sonicare
I felt like a light bulb exploded in my head. It was ridiculous how clean my teeth felt, as if I just had them cleaned and polished at my dentist. How is that possible with only 1 session? Was my Oral B that bad? Maybe this was a fluke. A few more days went by, my teeth stayed with that smooth clean feeling. It's been a few weeks and I'm hooked.
What's so different about it - the brush head for one. Oral B has a circular head, it spins with use. With the Sonicare, it oscillates back and forth, mimicking real tooth brushing motion. There are contours of the brush so it gets between the teeth. The bristles are stiff to clean my teeth but gentle enough to get into the gums w/o causing bleeding. Oral B brush heads were rough and painful.
This product is great for small mouths, hard to reach areas/crevices and for sensitive teeth.
I like that it has options for sensitive and regular or whitening. I like that it's timed so I know I'm doing the right amount. The toothbrush will shut itself off after 2 minutes. It'll be good for kids too, so they're not doing a swipe and say they're done.
I'm very impressed with this product, very glad I got it and can't wait until my next dentist appointment. I've had it for a few weeks and notice not only are my teeth cleaner, but they are truly whiter.
UPDATE:
I've had it for a few months - went for my cleaning and my dental hygienist noticed my teeth/gums were improving. She asked me what I did differently and told her I switched toothbrushes. HA!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE my toothbrush!
UPDATE 10/6/2010:
Went for my cleaning yesterday - OMG! Can we say miracle? The dental hygienist was super happy to see my gums are getting healthier, when they do the measurements I've been getting mostly 4's (1's are ideal, 5's are no good), but this time, they were at mostly 2's with a couple of 3's!! My gums/teeth and mouth are overall getting better with each visit. My dentist is happy with my progress - so am I!! the least amount of dental work, the happier I'll be.

Crest Pro Whitening SpinBrush Toothbrush, 1 ea - PARENT Review

Crest Pro Whitening SpinBrush Toothbrush, 1 ea - PARENT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have bought two of these brushes. I love the way they work, but they break too quickly. Neither one of them has lasted longer than three months (the package says to replace the heads every three to four months...think about it) The first one was great for a while, but water got into the battery compartment and caused the batteries to leak.
I blamed it on myself and went out to buy a new one. I was extra careful not to get the bottom wet, which is interesting to do considering it is a product that is made to be used around water. Not to be disgusting, but how do you rinse off your saliva without getting it wet??? This second one lasted a little bit longer than the first one, but now I have an interesting problem where I cannot get the battery compartment to fit back inside the brush! Even with the batteries not inside it, the compartment will not snap all the way in. If it's not closed, it won't run, and water would be able to get inside anyway.
The following are points to consider, on their own they would not bother me but I'll mention them anyway:
-The battery compartment, when working, is a little difficult to get open.
-On the first brush I had no problem getting the power switch to slide up with wet hands, but on the second brush the switch went considerably harder and I need to put my hand inside a towel to turn the brush on.
-As far as it's whitening properties, I don't know if it does that, I've never paid attention. It does keep my teeth clean though.
On the other hand, my boyfriend bought his at the same time that I bought my first one, and his is still going strong. He doesn't treat his in any special way, so it looks like it's just a roll of the dice as to whether or not you get a good brush. I'm not taking that chance any more, the next brush will be a different brand. I'd rather buy a more expensive brush that lasts a long time than a cheap one that I have to replace every 3 months.

I bought one of these after my second Sonic Care died within a year. The toothbrush does not clean quite as well as a Sonic Care but it is much better than a manual toothbrush. You don't need to spend the kind of money they are offering them for here however. Found mine at a "big box" for a lot less money. You might also want to consider an Oral B sonic for about $24 at a big box.

Just the top part vibrates; the bottom part of the brush does nothing. Also it just vibrates not rotate or spin. I feel like it does nothing more then give a nice hand massage. It is just like a normal toothbrush, but heavier and eats battery. Not worth even this cheap price.

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with Sanitizer Review

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with Sanitizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been a very happy Oral-B (Braun) user for about the last 4 years. During that time I've gone through 2 of their higher-end brushes. I've never been one to bad-mouth Sonicare, because it's a good brush, but I just preferred the smaller size of the Oral-B, along with the pop-off brush heads. Now however, Sonicare has changed that with their new model, the Flexcare.
I purchased this model because it was recommended by a dentist who said that the new Flexcare is not just a new style of brush, but that it actually has a greatly improved brushing technology. So, I bought a brush online and proceeded to try it out. Wow.
After having used the Flexcare, it doesn't even seem possible to compare it to my old Oral-B (which is only a year old.) This brush actually seems 20 years more advanced, and that is not an exaggeration. It has a bit of a high-pitch to it which doesn't bother me, but the real story is in the vibration. The brush seems to work exponentially better with 80% less vibration; it's a dream to use. I actually get sad after it auto-shuts off after the brushing cycle, something that I wish it didn't do. Also, and perhaps most important, is that it feels like it cleans my teeth better than my Oral-B. After using the Flexcare for awhile, I went back to my old Oral-B, just to compare... As soon as I turned it on, I couldn't believe that I loved it so much, it felt like, and sounded like an antique in comparison.
The different brushing modes on the Flexcare are really nice, but there is a small problem with all your options. One thing I'd like to be able to do is to "program" the brush to do the 3-minute brushing mode every time by default (this mode does the brushing action and also the massage action.) However, whenever you place the brush back on the charger, it automatically resets back to the 2-minute brushing mode. Programming the brush for the mode that you like every time you pick it up is not hard, but it's really annoying. Sonicare: please fix this in later models.
This brush comes with 2 chargers, one for home (with the sanitizer) and a travel one (without a sanitizer.) It also comes with a brush head cover, and a travel pouch to put the wand in. These accessories will make traveling with my brush much more enjoyable. I've never understood why more electric toothbrush makers don't include or even make these accessories.
The pop-off brush heads (as compared to sonicare's old screw on heads) are fantastic and much better than the Oral-B pop-off ones. On my Oral-B I had to remove the brush head to wash out the gunk after brushing, but because the Sonicare brush heads are longer, very, very litle gunk gets in them. That was a pleasant surprise. Although, removing and attaching the brush head on the Flexcare wand requires a lot more force, which I don't like.
The U.V. sanitizer is a nice gadget, but who knows how useful it really is? In fact, there may even be some long-term immune system dangers by killing every bacteria/virus in sight, just like using anti-bacterial soap, but this is not the forum for that. I used the UV Sanitizer a few times, but I don't use it at all anymore because of what I believe to be a very real problem with all the anti-bacterial products out there these days. Although, based on the few times I did use it, I could see where its utilization on a daily basis would be cumbersome. If you brush twice a day, it becomes too much of a bother to remove the brush head every time and put it in the sanitizer. The brush head needs to be aligned perfectly in the sanitizer and the door closed and snapped gently. If you have big hands, putting the brush head into the sanitizer is more awkward, especially if you're using the large brush head (FYI: the brush heads come in 2 sizes, small and large, and one of each is included in the package.)
It's nice to see that Sonicare has FINALLY ditched the NiCad batteries and went to Li-ion batteries; what took so long? This change means that the brush will now run longer on a single charge, and won't develop a memory by leaving it on the charging stand. It's also the reason that the brush handle is now smaller which makes it more manageable.
As much as I love this brush, I do realize that the price Sonicare has marketed it at is exceedingly high. If I were to buy it again, I would save $20 and get the one without the U.V. sanitizer. Other than the high price and a little nitpicking on the brushing modes, I really couldn't be more pleased with this brush. Oral-B has a LONG way to go to catch up to this Sonicare model.
-------
Update 29 November 07
The brush still continues to amaze me and I LOVE using it everyday. I've stopped using the charging station with the UV Sanitizer and I now only use the "travel charger" for everyday use at home. One nice benefit in changing to the very, very small travel charger was that I freed up some space on my bathroom counter, and the brush is easier to set down and pickup without the sanitizer being in the way. I can't understand one reviewer who said the brush doesn't sit right or balance well on the stand. Also, I have sensitive teeth and use a sensitive toothpaste, and the brushes' actions have not bothered me at all. I'd buy this brush again in a heartbeat.

From the makers of the number one recommended power toothbrush brand by dental professionals, Philips Sonicare introduces FlexCare, the most advanced power toothbrush ever. Featuring a new innovative technology, FlexCare removes more plaque than Oral B's Triumph and even Sonicare Elite. The integrated ultraviolet (UV) Sanitizer removes up to 99 percent of bacteria* on your toothbrush.
Built for your individual oral care needs, FlexCare offers three different cleaning modes and two routines to enhance your brushing experience.
Three modes include: Clean - for maximum cleaning efficacy Sensitive - for those with sensitive teeth and gums Massage - to stimulate gums with a invigorating and pulsing motion
Routines include: MaxCare - which delivers a 3-minute, thorough, full-mouth clean GoCare - for a quick 1-minute clean between regular brushings

Oral-B 1000 Professional Care 1000 Electric Toothbrush, White and Blue Review

Oral-B 1000 Professional Care 1000 Electric Toothbrush, White and Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the Oral-B series of mechanical toothbrushes since the early 2000s. I'm a fan of the system because it is very cost effective, especially compared to the sonic variety. I've got my family and friends to use them to great results. Their advantage over standard toothbrushes cannot be overemphasized, provided you use both correctly.
This is apparently a tier above the most basic model, by adding "3D" feature--which is really a vibrating brush head in addition to rotation--to the basic rotation model. Based on usage and observations of various users and previous models, and after testing the unit out myself for the claims, let me try to break it down:
Pros/Improvements:
- it's still impeccably made; not that the origin (Germany) necessarily have anything to do with it, but I'd be hard pressed to find anything more consistently well made, or feels more solid, including the much more expensive Sonicare lines, or almost any other consumer products I've owned.
- the inductive charging base is much improved over previous models. I'm not talking about the lack of brushhead holder which isn't meant to be on this low end model anyway, but that the charging area next to the inductive notch is completely open. It makes a huge difference as the older designs have difficult to reach corners/crevices that may trap dirt and water deposits that can be hard to clean. It also looks better with symmetrical lines and smaller footprint (that's only slightly bigger than the brush's), adding to the clean, minimalist appeal. It's also much easier to carry if needed for travel.
- Furthermore, the charging notch is compatible with any Braun mechanical units sold after 2006, so for some people you may be able to use the old charging base or find one at your friend's for stay-overs, etc. A minor point, probably, but I had found it a convenience for travels.
-It uses any of the mechanical Oral-B brush head designs: Other than Oral-B's own sonic line that has incompatible replacement heads, it has a great selection of mechanical heads to choose from: Precision Clean (included), Floss Action (rubber flaps), Pro White (rubber disc), and Dual Clean (larger, two part brush head that doesn't "hug" the tooth as well in my opinion). I think there's also a sensitive variety with softer bristles for each of these designs. It's unmatched in terms of brush options.
-the classic head design may look small, but is designed to very effectively hug the entire tooth and cut into gaps and corners, provided you do not over pressure the brush and only rotate the brush angle to cover all areas. It may take some patience for a two minute brushing, but it's proven to be very effective at removing plaque.
- rubberized area to the front (thumb) rather than the back (fingers) of the brush handle-- it may sound trivial, but this proved to be important. The smoother plastic area may be more "slippery", but it is also mildew and stain resistant and very easy to clean. By contrast, with the previous "Vitality" lines, the rubberized area covered most of the body with creases to aid handling, but over time dirt, hard water deposits and even mildew developed, requiring a soak in bleach to remove. Older models with a similar minimally-rubberized design fared much better. I'm glad this model carried the more traditional layout.
- being a better-than-basic model, thankfully it has two indicator lights, telling you charging states(charging/full) and when battery is nearly depleted. Some of us may never need it (and oral-B basic models started removing lights all together to cut cost), but for the average user this can be useful especially for the sake of battery maintenance routines.
- the use of NiMH battery: these brushes are powered by a single rechargeable AA sized battery. Braun has used NiCd since the introduction of these designs, and this is the first time I see NiMH being used. There are pros and cons to this change (will also cover in the Cons section). NiMH is certainly more environmentally friendly with low/no toxicity, that almost certainly prompted this change as NiCd is now banned in Europe. NiMH also has no discernible memory effects. The instruction still tells you to completely discharge at least every 6 months, a recommendation which is shared with NiCd for longer service life. The discharging pattern for NiMH is also more linear, meaning that it will feel relatively powerful from full charge to depletion (proved to be true on this model), where with NiCd you can feel the power wane very quickly as the battery discharged through use. The capacity is also generally higher with NiMH, meaning fewer charges required between uses. The combination of longer battery life and even discharge pattern making it more feasible to use the brush without leaving it on the charging stand. (though one can also leave it on the charging stand, Braun seems to have reservations based on "environmental" reasons; it's also useful if you are packing the brush to travel for a few days without having to take the charger).Cons:
- the "pressure sensor" isn't anything much. In fact when you press too hard the head would stop vibrating just out of physical impossibility, not that anything got "turned off" (it will keep on rotating, see video). I was hoping the sensor would give out a warning or turn off brushing, because over-pressuring the brush head is a serious problem for people using these power brushes with smaller heads, especially if they just switched from manual brushes. I have had people who ruin brush heads prematurely because they pressed too hard, a tendency that's fairly common as people think it'll give a better cleaning, but really achieves the opposite effects. I tried to correct this with some users by tutoring and instruction, but it was a real and recurring problem with them, as it is probably anti-intuitive to clean well just by gliding brushes and angling them lightly over teeth and gums. I was hoping the "sensor" would do the trick, but there's nothing indicative of any "sensing", much less in responses. The more observant users may be able to tell by a difference in vibration, but there's not much else to signal this crucial error.
- Non-Replaceable NiMH battery: Braun had no option but to switch to NiMH due to the banning of NiCd's. Besides the mentioned advantages in the previous section, NiMH nevertheless has far fewer charging cycles as NiCd does. I am still using a Braun brush I purchased in 2002, a unit that used NiCd, which I regularly discharged completely for maintenance, and it is still going very strong 8 years later. While I haven't used a NiMH Braun model until now, I imagine the life cycle should be significantly shorter, if my experiences with NiMH/NiCd AA batteries and their chemically inherent characteristics are any indication. I had also wondered why Braun can't make these batteries replaceable--especially because they do make replaceable battery powered models; but the latter simply don't have the same performance--i.e. they're much weaker despite the two AA batteries required, for some reason. However, for most people, I imagine the life cycle of a standard NiMH battery is probably long enough to last until the next desirable upgrade.
- the quadrant timers: Braun started using timers on higher end models early on, which gave indication by two stuttering short stops in the operation at 30 seconds intervals, and also a series of longer stutters at 2 minutes to indicate sufficient brushing time. I found it useful when they had only two minute timers (no 30 sec quadrant timers), indicating the minimal length needed for proper brushing without turning off (a good brushing can take longer); It was something I could easily have people comprehend and use practically as a gauge of how well they are brushing. However, the quadrant timers are just making it a bit confusing for some people, not to mention more intrusive. It's especially true because nobody brushes the four quadrants the same way, or it being really practical to divide brushing area evenly into four parts (try it you will see). To me those 30 seconds pulses seems rather redundant, if not confusing. There's also no way to turn them off.
-The charging base only takes 110-130v AC, unlike some previous lower end Braun models, meaning that you can't use it in countries with 220v outlets without adapters. It's probably not going to matter for most people, but if you travel that may be important.
- It's noisier than Sonic brushes (from both Philips and Braun), but this is a minor point. It's not any noisier than earlier generations of Braun mechanical brushes, nor the noise excessive, but I thought it should probably be mentioned.I like this brush very much, just like all the other Braun mechanical brushes I've purchased over the years. Its 3D action really works in attacking plaque and gaps not only with lateral rotating action of the brush, but also vertical attacks to the teeth surface and crevices. The motor is powerful and really works wonders at cleaning.
The 1000 series is a practical choice, being one tier above the basic model, adding the effective 3D brushing function, yet without the various brushing modes (sensitive and whitening, available one tier up in 3000) and fancy timers and displays in higher end models (4000 and 5000). It's well positioned for those who want the most crucial functions without the bells and whistles.
These Braun mechanical brushes we have purchased are all well designed, well made, and proved effective at improving our family's oral hygiene. We have our dentists remarking on the differences between semi-annual check-ups after getting the brushes, and even...Read more›

iTouchless Shake-A-Brush Toothbrush Power Adaptor (2 Sets) Review

iTouchless Shake-A-Brush Toothbrush Power Adaptor (2 Sets)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device is a good idea. I bought a set to try it out. I received it yesterday.
The handle does accept a wide variety of toothbrushes and holds them stably in place. The grip feels comfortable. The power is turned on by squeezing the handle itself to make the electrical contact. It is turned off by releasing it. This makes it hard for smaller children with weaker grips, and somewhat inconvenient for adults. I improvised by placing a rubber band on the grip, then squeezing it and sliding the rubber band forward to keep it squeezed down.
I think this device is a great idea, if the next generation would have a button to turn the power on and off. As for how well it cleans the teeth, I think it will do a good job, once you get used to it.

Colgate Motion Battery Powered Toothbrush - 1 ea Review

Colgate Motion Battery Powered Toothbrush - 1 ea
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this product a few weeks ago and I just love it! I bought it because it was late out and the only store open was out of normal toothbrushes- i got mine for about $6 i think. After using it twice daily my teeth feel incredible! It's like just coming out from the dentist's office after only a few moments spent brushing. The price is good, the design and ergonomics are good, and the brushing is great- what more could you ask for? Some people here weren't happy with the battery life, but so far I haven't had any problems. And even if they did start to die after about a month, so what? Just replace them- no big deal. For all the benefits, it's more than worth it. As for the handle being too heavy, come on- that's just nit-picking. I love this toothbrush so much that I actually took the time to write this- and I have purchased dozens of things from Amazon that I'm very pleased with but have never written about.

Cleans nicely though I don't have enough experience to compare it to other power brushes. On/off switch did not work (even after some fiddling) so I open the battery compartment to turn it off.

Oral-B CrossAction Power Dual Clean Soft Bristle Toothbrush, 1-Count Review

Oral-B CrossAction Power Dual Clean Soft Bristle Toothbrush, 1-Count
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Personally I think it's a great toothbrush. I've never used an electric toothbrush before but noticed that this one was pretty cheap so decided to give it a try. I've had it for about 2 months now, and the bristles are still good, and the battery still works just fine (though it's sounds like it's starting to run down). You'd have to be really picky to find issues with this toothbrush.

Oral-B Vitality Prowhite Rechargeable Power Toothbrush, Light Blue and White Review

Oral-B Vitality Prowhite Rechargeable Power Toothbrush, Light Blue and White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Oral-B has a number of brushes available - the Sonic, Vitality, the Professional Care family (which comprises the 1000 and 3000), and the Professional Care SmartSeries (4000 and 5000). The Oral-B 1000 is the entry level of the Professional Care series.
In my usage of the Vitality and the Oral-B 1000, the Oral-B 1000 stands at the minimum level of functionality to make an electric toothbrush viable.
In particular, note that the Vitality does not have a quadrant timer (it beeps only at the end of the 2-minute cycle), is rated at only 7600 oscillations per second, and does not have a battery charging indicator. All of which are present just one level up in the Professional Care 1000.
To me the lack of a quadrant timer is a big disappointment - I don't want to be watching a clock while brushing if I don't have to. The gentle thrumming of the Professional Care 1000 every 30 seconds is a very nice pacer.
The brushes in the Professional Care series not only add quadrant timers, but also are rated both at 8800 oscillations per second and at 40,000 pulsations per second, and have battery charge indicators.
As you go higher in the Professional Care family you get multiple brush modes (daily clean, sensitive, polish, deep clean), pressure sensors, and even wireless displays.
Overall, I found the Vitality to be lacking features that I rely on. Hence my rating. I'd strongly recommend that you consider the Professional Care 1000 as the minimum entry level functionality for a brush. You'll probably find (like I did) that you don't need much more than what the Professional Care 1000 has to offer.
Happy Brushing!
~Damodar

Colgate Motion Battery Powered Whitening Toothbrush, Soft 1 ea Review

Colgate Motion Battery Powered Whitening Toothbrush, Soft 1 ea
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use the old fashioned toothbrushes and these electric ones because I need to get behind my upper wisdom teeth which I still have. Because they are so far back, I can't really brush behind them so I put this behind them and the revolving heads provide the cleaning motion for me.
I initially got these powered ones because they were the cheapest ones I could find, and they work well too. I've had the expensive Sonicare plus other powered toothbrushes that coming with charging stands and removable heads, etc., but this cheap one works well enough for me. The issue for me is not the toothbrush but just the effort to clean the teeth thoroughly and I give this one high marks.
It's cheap enough to be disposable, and in fact after a long period of use with moldy or mineral build-up inside the brush I just toss it and get a new one, unlike the expensive ones where I'd get a used toothbrush and have to clean them manually.
Top marks for price and utility!

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Plus HX6972/10, Rechargeable Toothbrush Review

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Plus HX6972/10, Rechargeable Toothbrush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The differences between this model and the "older" Flexcare are minimal, that is probably why all they did is add a + to the end of the name. But there are a few differences between the two.
1. Most notably is the "new" look. It has a cleaner appearance with most of the front being a dark chrome look, also instead of the green led's, it has a backlight behind the selected brushing mode.
2. Gone are the 'Go Care' and 'Max Care' and in their place are 'Gum Care' and 'Refresh' mode. They do exactly what the other one did except for one important change on the 'Gum Care' mode which replaced 'Max Care (which is why I picked the new one over the old) '. Instead of having a 3 minute routine with 45 seconds each quad (30 normal + 15 massage) for a total of 3 min; they now have it where it goes 30 seconds each quad with an added 1 minute at the end for 'problem areas' which is broken down into four 15 second intervals.
3. 'Different' color, looks very similar - its 'Soft Sky Blue' instead of 'Medical Blue'. Basically bluer color than the old one which was more of a green color.
4. Supposedly lasts longer - 42 2-minute brushings, vs. 20 2-minute brushings of the old one
5. Case is now hard plastic instead of the soft case that comes with the old model
There is also a few changes in what the battery display shows with its charge but I'm not going to go into it that far with this review. I decided to upgrade from the Sonicare Elite as I was getting tired of seeing the nasty gunk that would grow inside of the handle. It was time to get a new brush head so I decided to go ahead and get a new brush while I was looking around. Overall I think it has been a good decision as this brush shouldn't need the constant cleaning of the old one and I like the new 'Gum Care' routine. So if wanted to know the differences, there you go, you probably now know more than you wanted about a toothbrush. If your like me and wanted to know at least some of this, it should help you decide between the two. Be sure to click yes if this helped you out! Thanks.

Philips Sonicare Xtreme e3000 Power Toothbrush Review

Philips Sonicare Xtreme e3000 Power Toothbrush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first heard of Sonicare coming out with a toothbrush with replaceable batteries, I was excited. I upgraded to this from the Sonicare Advance after it failed to hold a charge any longer. With the other Sonicares, you have to throw the whole unit out if the batteries inside die. With these you just change out the batteries. I liked them so much I bought 2. Now after 3 months, both of them have already died. The end cap where you replace the batteries is not water tight. The O-ring that seals the battery compartment is not made very well. There are also 2 holes at the bottom of the toothbrush next to the metal clip on the endcap, which I believe is a design flaw. Although Sonicare sent me replacement units, I believe these replacements will also only last a few months. This is a great toothbrush for brushing, except they need to send it back to the design stage for the water resistant problem.

The Sonicare Extreme e3000 Power Toothbrush is the first sonic, battery-operated toothbrush designed specifically for teens and preteens. Stylish, powerful and portable, the Extreme e3000 delivers all the oral health benefits of other Sonicare toothbrushes, with a special emphasis on improving the brushing habits of younger users. Safe, comfortable, and effective, even for those with braces or brackets, the e3000 encourages healthy oral hygiene habits for life. Patented Technology and Dynamic Fluid Action The e3000 incorporates the insights of dental professionals concerned with improving brushing habits of young people, and it can help make a significant difference in oral health in only a few minutes a day. With results backed by over 85 published studies, Sonicare is a name you can trust to be effective. Like all Sonicare toothbrushes, the e3000 was inspired by dental equipment and creates a fluid and dynamic cleaning action. A series of tiny but powerful waves dislodge plaque that isn't normally reachable by either a manual brush or the oscillating and rotating movements of other power brushes. In fact, the patented technology behind the e3000's cleaning action can actually make it easier to clean plaque below the gum line. The bristles on the e3000 play an important role, too. Their high velocity movement results in direct contact with each tooth to cover more area in less time. These bristles are also designed to be extra gentle on teeth and gums. For added convenience, the e3000 comes with two AA batteries and offers a long battery life of about six weeks, so it's ideal for overnight trips or vacations.Proven to Deliver Brushing Compliance Sometimes preteens and teens resisted brushing, either because it's uncomfortable or because it takes too much effort to achieve real results. But the e3000 is teen-tested and approved, and has been proven to encourage teens to continue regular healthy brushing habits. In fact, in clinical tests, subjects brushed measurably longer with the e3000 than with a manual toothbrush. Easy and comfortable to use, thanks to the contoured brush head, the e3000 also features a Smartimer that automatically shuts off after the two-minute dentist recommended brushing time. Most importantly, the e3000 is highly effective; studies show that it removes more plaque than using other toothbrushes. And thanks to Sonicare's no risk, 100-percent satisfaction guarantee, your teen has everything to gain with better dental check-ups.Improve Overall Health The e3000 can help make a difference in your teen's health now, while setting a good foundation for later in life. It's vital to start good oral hygiene early, not only to help prevent cavities, but also to maintain overall wellness. In fact, recent studies prove that maintaining healthy teeth and gums has a positive impact on other health considerations. For instance, research shows that there is often a connection between periodontal disease and heart disease, suggesting that consistent oral hygiene at-home care can help prevent health problems down the road. The e3000 comes with a two-year limited warranty. What's in the Box Sonicare Extreme e3000 power toothbrush and two AA batteries.

Oral-B 3000 Professional Care 3000 Electric Toothbrush, White and Blue Review

Oral-B 3000 Professional Care 3000 Electric Toothbrush, White and Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I also own an Oral-B Pulsonic and a Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite so I am familiar with and used to using an electric toothbrush. Newcomers will probably have an adjustment period but the transitions isn't that hard. The Oral-B 3000 is a definite step up from a manual toothbrush and falls between my other two brushes. It is more like a dentist's cleaning brush than the other two and it employs a purely a physical cleaning methodology while the other two brushes rely on sonic technology. The 3000 is a bit more effective than the Pulsonic but the latter is more of a travel toothbrush. Comparatively, the Pulsonic is weaker and the user is instructed to brush as well as let the sonic action take place. The Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite is more powerful than either and the user is just supposed to move it over the surface of the teeth rather than exert force when brushing. I find it to be the most effective.
The Oral-B 3000 is a good brush and it gets my teeth "squeaky clean". It has good power and a lot of movement of the bristles on the head. If you prefer a longer bristled head as opposed to a round one, then this brush is not for you. But it is very effective in any case. You have to apply more pressure and move the brush more than with a pure sonic brush, but it works. There are 3 cleaning mode and I find the first to be the best. The second is a "gentle" cycle and the third oscillates between slow and fast. Every 30 seconds you get a remind to clean a different tooth area and at two minutes you get a 3 pulse reminder that you've done enough brushing. Battery life is good and the brush comes with an initial charge to let you brush once before having to re-charge. The base is rather large with a section for 4 brush heads so it takes up a bit of space on your countertop. The overall brush design is decent but middle of the road quality-wise. It feels more plasticy than my other two electric toothbrushes. The contrasty blue and white colors seem more suited to a kid's brush, as does the red light that flashes when you press too hard. A neat feature I suppose, if a bit gimmicky.
I like the Oral-B 3000 but at its current price point think there may be better options. You could do worse, but you could also do better.
Update: 09/03/2010 - This has become my go-to brush for a good clean. I like my sonic ones, but this one is more "fun", though that is hard to quantify. And it does a good job of cleaning. The charge lasts a while too. Some other things I've noticed is that it takes more work to clean than my other power brushes. Not terrible, but a bit more time. Also, it is loud. I don't find it annoying, but if you don't want to wake someone in the next room while doing your teeth, you probably will want to close the bathroom door.
