(More customer reviews)I have purchased several of these because I liked the idea of a clean, disinfected brush. Some of the units I purchased worked for a few weeks, some for a few days, and others not at all or only one time. I have tried all types of batteries and it makes no difference. The unit turns on when the lid closing makes contact with a small piece in the base of the holder. Unfortunately, the design is such that this contact isn't secure.
Another down side is that the unit collects moisture and the dampness will cause more germs after the UV light goes out. You have to keep cleaning the inside of the unit or stains appear very quickly under the brush. Yuch!!! I've switched to the units that do the disinfecting with dry heat - much healthier!!

-Easy to use.
-It seems to be easy to clean.
-Uses 3-AAA Batteries, great for my tiny, one-outlet bathroom
-Compact, fits in a drawer when company is coming
The other reviewer of this product has also commented on other toothbrush sanitizers and mentions the ADA. So, I went to the ADA website and read that they think sanitizers might be valuable to immunocompromised persons. Denists I have spoken to use them at home and insist that their children use them.
As a layperson, my opinion is that not enough is known about the subject and I am not taking any chances.

It really only holds the normal skinny handle brushes and most people don't use those anymore. None of the kids brushes would fit and the adult ones were a battle to get in and out. I'll be taking it back and maybe looking for a cup version. Very sleek looking and great design though if you only use skinny brushes.

(More customer reviews)It's made of hard plastic, so I worry that it may break. Each half is made of two pieces of plastic, so that's also a potential point of breakage. Definitely not as well made as other toothbrush holders I've found, but better than what I found at my local drugstore, though your milage may vary.
There is enough friction so that it does not come apart, which is probably the most important feature.
There are two holes on one end to allow moisture to drip out, which is good. It would've been better if they had holes on both ends, or perhaps one towards the middle of each half.

(1) Anything that gets on your toothbrush head was ALREADY in your mouth. Unless you think your houseguests are cleaning their shoe soles with your toothbrush while you aren't looking.
(2) You are sitting a wet toothbrush head in this gizmo. Which means it is sitting in a puddle of water that is likely to mold/mildew. So you can put mold/mildew INTO your mouth (that was NOT in your mouth before).
(3) The puddle of water is likely to (a) rust out the innards of this gizmo and (b) short-circuit the gizmo's electronics.
(4) The American Dental Association says these gizmos have no proven beneficial health benefits:

Given all that, it seems your money would be better spent betting "Hard 8" at the dice tables in Vegas.

(More customer reviews)I used to own a Zapi sanitizer by the same manufacturer, but the UV light broke after a year. So when looking for replacement I saw this new product, I thought it would be great: just the perfect size to fit on the counter top and can be used for both mine and my spouse's brushes. I've had it now for 4 months and discovered that compared to Zapi it has a major drawback: it goes through batteries VERY fast, and needs a new set of batteries (3 AAAs) every 2-3 weeks. I use the sanitizer 2x a day - morning and night after brushing, and had to replace batteries 5 or 6 times already. This can get expensive. Not sure what the problem is: Zapi used to last on one set of batteries for months, albeit it had a shorter shut-off cycle time and only held 1 brush.
I would not recommend this product, unless you have an unlimited supply of AAA batteries and don't mind changing them every couple weeks.

Only issues I have are that it is used to sanitize my autistic daughters oral stimulating tool, on the go. The slightest bump and it pops open and starts the cyce over. The rubber toothbrush holding piece isn't really holding well with movement. During travel may have to take out the rechargable batteries so it isn't starting and stopping with every bump in your baggage.

Unfortunately mine stopped working after a month. I thought it was the bulb and contacted Germ Guardian (as instructed in the manual) for a replacement bulb. They told me that they did not provide bulbs and that I should purchase one at the local lighting store. The type of bulb required for this sanitizer is not readily available. I've looked everywhere and no one has it. So now I am using it as a toothbrush holder.

It is lightweight with clean lines and takes seconds to assemble with the UVZ sanitizer.
The unit has several suction cups on the bottom that keeps it firmly mounted on the vanity.
This would only work on a flat, non-pourous surface, but that pretty much would describe any vanity's countertop.
What more is there to say, simple, elegant, easy to assemble and works.

My low rating is over the design of the unit.
Each time I would toss it in my luggage and arrive at a new destination I would find the unit was on. While packed n the suitcase the unit would start another power cycle. End result is dead batteries after a few days of traveling.
My hack is to remove the batteries and reinstall upon arrival. A better unit design would be an on/off switch for when the unit is traveling to avoid inadvertent power cycles.
After 3 weeks of use the plate under brush head has tarnished. This premature wearing indicates cheap parts.

Anyways, I was preparing to travel and first saw these in the local health food store. I decided to try them instead of the portable UV case I would usually use and I've been using them ever since.
My toothbrush doesn't get any build up around the bristles since using these - it seemed like there was always a tiny bit of build up when using the UV sanitizers. Plus the UV sanitizers are a pain to clean and you have to constantly replace the batteries. These you just replace every two months - a cost much lower than the UV units and a continual need to replace their batteries.
The packaging says that the granules, which are in a tiny container on the front of the unit, contain lemon oil, clove oil, peppermint oil. tea tree oil and thyme oil. I've noticed that as it grows closer to the time to replace it the granules seem to swell up - as if they're absorbing moisture. However, I don't know if that's part of the whole sanitizing process or not.
